Dear Mrs. Hall -----

Just a few lines to let you know that I received your great gift of cig.

It is rather hard for all of us young chaps to be over here away from home + our loved ones, but it makes the job a bit easier when we know the people at home have not fogotten us. It is not perhaps the actual gift itself but the thought with which a gift is sent. Thanking you again + all the best for the New Year.

Yours sincerely,

John Rache
