20 Clear - S.E. February Sunday, 9 1879 Went to Wm S Bond's & Phineas Carol's Slept badly last night having taken fresh cold - ___ Marlow (of Howard Co:) here & had tooth extracted.

29° Clear & Cloudy - N.E. Monday, 10 Went to Wm S. Bond's & Phineas Caroll's Afternoon Dr A Riggs spend an hour or two with me.

36° Rain - S.E. Tuesday, 11 Went to Ed: Hill's Phineas Caroll's & Brighton brought cousin H Chandlee's home with me to spend a few days.

31° Clear High Wind N.W. February Wednesday, 12 1879 Mrs Clara Chalfant called also Saml Crawford. Went to W S Bond's P B Carols & Ashton. D A Riggs called & left me his obstetric forceps -

32 - Cloudy Thursday, 13 Went to Mrs Scott's & Phineas Carrol's Sent Israel & got 645 lbs hay from P J Stabler's - Helen B Lea called and took Cousin Hannah home. Harriet & Hannah called at Miss Mary Thoma's - Charley attended a meeting of the "Rifle Club" and joined it.

20 Cloudy & spitting snow N.E. Friday, 14 Went to Carroll's & Mrs Scott's Elizabeth Johnson called with her children - Went to "Fulford" & Sandy Spring store. After tea Ernest & Frank Gilpin & Charley's music teacher came.

31° Snow N.E. Monday, 17 Snowing hard & fast from the N.E. E Dickinson here. Chas Howard & wife here for advice & med: for the latter

37° Cloudy - E. February Tuesday, 18 1879 Went in sleigh to Crawford's and to Leawood Mill's. home to dinner. Sleighing very poor. After tea Charley Rode over to Riverside.

29. Snow. N.E. Wednesday, 19 Sent Israel to Ed Mill's -

27° Clear Cloudy Windy N.W. Thursday, 20 Snowed about 3 1/2 inches last night "Little Edward" kept us awake with croup last night. Went in sleigh to Fulford. Ashton & again to Fulford taking Dora with me the last trip Ed: Hill brought us 2 1/2 cords of pine wood -

February Friday, 21st 1879 Went to office (in sleight) E Dickinson called - Afternoon went to Jno: King's and to store at Sandy Spring to see Saml Bond - Dr Sam Scott called after tea Ernest came to stay all night with Charley they expecting to go to Baltimore tomorrow. Phineas Carol here for advice for child.

33° Cloudy. E. Saturday, 22 Charley & Ernest started for Balto about 7-o'clock taking my phaeton & "Betty" with Ernest's mare - Little Edwd quite sick last night, high fever & delirious -. Went to office driving "Polly" in the sleigh - Wnet to Mrs Caroline Scott's (on horseback). Henson Johnson here tinkering at the pump -

40 Clear & Cloudy - S.E. Sunday, 23 Went (on horseback) to Henson Johnson's & to Fulford. Bro: Charles dined with us - Afternoon went to Jno: King's - Remus Johnson here for advice & med: for his son's wife. Charley & Ernest reached here from Balto about 9-o'clock pm. the latter went on over to Riverside - Little Edwd still very sick

28 - Clear - W February Monday, 24th 1879 "Betty" mare seems quite stiff and decidedly the worse of her trip to town Went to office had "Betty newly shod "in front". Went to Henson Johnson's & Sandy Spring store to see Saml Bond. Thus Sam & Fanny Dickinson called & got our crib to use for little "Tom" for a while. Mary Cole & Ernest Cissel called for advice etc Baby still miserable.

33° Cloudy & Drizzle E. Tuesday, 25 Henson Johnson here trying to repair pump - Afternoon drove over to Mrs C. B. Scott's & got a bag of corn for my horses Henson Johnson here after tea for advice & med: for son's wife -

44. Cloudy - S.E. Wednesday, 26 Sarah Edward's (widow of Nathan Edwards) here for advice & med: for her infant. Went to office mended office water pitcher - Sarah Johnson here for advice & med for her son. Went to Remus Johnson's twice Henson Johnson fixed the pump.

20° Clear N.W. February Thursday, 27 1879 Went last night and again about sun rise this morning to Remus Johnson's. left a boy baby there for his son's wife - Took Dora & went to Saml. Johnson's & home. Went to Hollin's corner to see old man Grimes. Took Dora and went to "Homewood". Horace Sedgwick here for advice. Took clothes to Sarah Dent to have them washed & ironed.

16 Clear - E. Friday, 28 Went to Remus Johnson's & to office. to Fulford & S. S. Afternoon Mr Wm H. Farguhar's barn was burned; from a mans pipe: a fine horse together with much grain & provender cows [and] I walked up, taking Willie to see the ruins. Rode back to our house with Ernest who called there for medicine & advice.

22° Clear - Saturday, March 1st Went to Fairall shop & left books to be footed & to the office. Went to "Rifle shooting match" at Scott's. made score 31 in possible 50 with short Winchester magazine rifle 200 yards

25° Dark Cloudy day E March Sunday, 2d 1879 Sarah Dent here early & had teeth extracted. Mrs Knight here with son Geo: to have pistol shot wound in hand dressed. Son Charley sick with "earache" from terrible cold. Harriet & Dora & Baby lodged in room at head of the stairs. Charley, Willie & I in our room - awake nearly all night. watching Charley.

33° Snowing - E. Monday, 3 Snow from 8 to 10 inches deep and still falling until near noon I was up at 2. am. got Israel up & arranged to get Charley up to start the mail in time. he being quite sick. sent him on horse back Israel going with him. Went to Scott's, Wm Lezear's Feed' k Stabler's. Old man Grimes etc in the sleigh: sleighing better than at any time before this winter.

36° Clear & Cloudy - S.W. Tuesday, 4 Went in sleigh to S. S. & then took Charley a little ride to Ashton Office etc. Mrs. King brought her son & had wounded hand dressed.

40 Clear - S.E. March Wednesday, 5th 1879 Took Charley with me & went to Jackson Harding's. after which I took Willie & went to Warfield's (on M Chandlee's place) Ed Dickinson came & spent evening & night here-

43 Clear & Cloudy Thursday, 6 E Dickinson left after early breakfast. Charley went to store again as usual. Went to Jackson Harding's called to see old John Grimes Geo: Knight had hand dressed.

44° Clear N.W. Friday, 7 Went to S.S. to Remus Dorsey's & office wrote to C Wilson. Phineas Caroll & wife & child called. also Levi Hopkins. & C Porter.

24 March Saturday, 8 1879 Went to S.S. to Geo: Tucker's and Mrs: Scott's H Lea here for med for Crawfords child. E Dick_son brought Dora home. went to Remus Johnson's.

40° Cloudy & Clear S.E. Sunday, 9 C Went to Riverside. on horse back after which he & I went to Geo Tuckers Jackson Harding's & Crawford's & Lees Mill's Roads horrible off the turn pike. axle deep & stick'y C went to Rockland. Jno Cook (from Ada Stabler's place) called -
