18 degrees Clear "wind" N. W. January Friday, 10 1879

Extremely icy and slippery. Went to Aquilla's for the last time I hope. Went to Sandy Spring. Ernest here to dinner. Edwd. Hill called. After tea Charley went to Riverside. Did not get home until 11.30 p.m.

20 Cloudy Saturday, 11 N.E.

Drove to office & Ashton had "Betty" "roughed" all around,. Afternoon sent Willie to Schofield's for butter. Warner Cook called, trying to get his son out of jail. [Jus] Ed Hill called after tea.

20 Snow Sunday, 12 N.E.

About home all day. Jim Jackson dined here. J Bentley & Harry Lee called. Snowy & disagreeable all day.

19 degrees Clear W. January Monday, 13 1879

Went (in Express wagon) to Ashton King's office, & to Riverside, brought sleigh runners from there to Marlow's shop. About home all the afternoon. W. J. Scofield called at office.

31 degrees Cloudy. Tuesday, 14 S. E.

Went to ofice. Brought sleigh runners home from Marlows to have them slightly altered before they are "ironed." Afternoon J. M. Smith called.

32° Cloudy & Clear Snow Wednesday, 15

Went to office. Rebecca Johnson sent me 75 cts (on account). Frank Cook called. Commenced snowing at 2.30 p.m. Went to Mrs Scott's.

26 degrees° Sleet - Cloudy & "Drizzle" N. E. January Thursday, 16 1879 Lebaine (colored teacher) called. Exceedingly disagreeable day. Went to Mrs Scott's & to Ashton. Ernest dined here. Sent Israel to Scott's & got 2 (two) barrels of corn (on the cob) H T Lea took tea with us & I prescribed for him.

23d Clear & Cloudy Friday, 17 Took Willie & went to Mechanicville had medicine trunk altered & got Zinc for sleigh dash - Afternoon Fannie Dickinson & Hallie Lea brought Fanny's children & I vaccinated them.[...] Mc Farland: came home with Charley & they (with some other youths) went after tea, over to "Wall's Cross Roads." After tea spent evening in re-arranging & labeling & refilling bottles in my medicine & instrument trunk

25.Cloudy Sa turday, 18 S. E. Disagreeable day. Went to office & store at Ashton brought little Richard home with me Mrs [Jno] King called. Made sled for Willie. Ernest took tea with us - Charley went home with Ernest to spend the night after closing the store

26° Cloudy January Sunday, 19 1879 About home all day. Loaned Express wagon to Remus Johnson. Ernest brought Charley home about noon. Afternoon I took his sister a drive with the buggy & horses. Ed: Bentley up at the store with Charley & announced his engagement to cousin Hallie Chandlee. Willie went to store with C for cakes & sugars about dusk where he went to make up the mail.

11 Clear Monday, 20 N. W. Extremely cold feeling day, in consequence of the wind. Went to store at S. S & to Ashton & office. Had irons made for Willie's "coasting sled". About home all the afternoon.

18° Clear Tuesday, 21 S. W. Went to office [...] Nesbitt (from W Lea's) called at office for advice for infant & Bro: C. called on his way to Rockville. Afternoon Marg [Kummer] came to spend a few days with Dora - Henson Plummer called for advice & need for infant - Charley got new "coasting sled" home -

33 degrees° Clear & Cloudy - S. E. JanuaryW ednesday, 22 1879 Quite warm. Went to Ashton and to Aquillas Afternoon Misss Alice & Margt: Tyson called to see H & D - Afternoon took Harriet, & baby, Dora, Willie & Mary Kummer to Fulford - took Misss Helen Snowden home from Fulford.

42 Cloudy & "drizzling" S. E. Thursday, 23 Went to office. Granville Stabler called for advice & med: Bro C & C. G Porter also called: the former for advice & med for Ernest. Dora & Mary Kummer went to the Cottage & dined also called at "ingleside" Margt: Scott called for advice & med:

28 Clear - Friday, 24 W. Knight boys got medicine for their mother. Saml Lebains after me to attend his wife went to office & to Lebain's. Dora walked home with M Kummer. Left fine girl baby at Lebane's. born at 11-30 a.m. Afternoon took sleigh runners to shop at Ashton. bought steel for soles for them (20"/2 lbs a 6.cts) went to Homewood for Dora

35 degrees° Clear - S. W. January Saturday, 25 1879 Went to office & to Lebain's afternoon Mr Wm F Wilson called & paid his bill.

Charley went to "Meeting". after which he & I drove to "Riverside" I prescribed for Sizzie who has very "bad cold" - Afternoon C rode "Polly" to jas S Hallowell's. Ham T Lea called. Bro's Richard & Chas came over the former to spend night here & go in stage tomrow morning. Harry took him up to Fulford to tea.

Went to office, to Riverside Homewood. Fulford & home: paid insurance tax. Went to Robt. Campbell's, attended. his wife in confinement (still born girl) C & D went to Sociable at Fulford.

50° Clear & Cloudy - S. E. January Tuesday, 28th 1879 Went to office & to Lebane's - afternoon Dora & I started (on horseback) to go to Riverside stopped at office & prescribed for Frederic Stabler. when it commenced raining and we came home getting quite wet F Macfarland here after tea.

49° Clear & Cloudy - S. E. Wednesday, 29 Suffering much with bad cold. Took Dora with me & drove over to Riverside. Afternoon Mary & Sally Elllicott called to see Dora. Charles Stabler called on his way to the "Grange"

Thursday, 30 Went to office: to Fred Stabler's Tilly Johnson had tooth extracted Remus Hill Jr: & S Crawford here for advise &" E Dickinson came to Fulford I went to Mrs Scott's - Fulford. Very bad cold with almost constant "hiccough"

32 - Clear & Cloudy January Friday, 31 1879 Troubled with "hiccough" again nearly the entire day - E Dickinson came and went with me to office & to "Cincinnatti". Thos Lea called for E D. and they walked home to Fulford.

28° Clear & Cloudy - N. W. Saturday, February 1 Drove to B Rush Roberts and paid him $59.00 went to Crawford's (on R.I. & H. T Lea's place) to prescribe for his wife called at Riverside Hallie Lea called & staid until Jno Bentley came to take her to Saml J Hopkin's Dora went with Frank Snowden to Benj: Miller's to a "birth day party"-

20° Variable - high wind N. W. Sunday, 2 Very disagreeable day - cold & windy about home all day: had cold. Wm Mitchell here for advise &c for wife also Dr. Scott for advise & med: for his grand-father. Charley took medicine to Crawford's wife. Little Edward taken with an ugly attack of croup at bed time.

29° Clear & Cloudy. S. W. February Monday, 3d 1879 Went to Mrs: Scott's. to Holland's corner, Frederic Stabler's & Crawford's Afternoon bro: Chas: called. Went to Fulford to see little "Tom". Our baby kept us awake most of last night, having a bad attack of croup -

30° Clear Tuesday, 4th S.W. Little Edwd: very croupy & kept us awake again nearly all last night. Went to Fulford, to Mrs Scott's, Roddy's and Fred'k Stablers - Afternoon went again to Fulford to see little Tom Lecture in evening at Lyceum .by

30° Snow Storm Wednesday, 5 S.W. Commensed snowing violently about 5-am and continued until now. Took Israel & went to Fred: Stabler's & to Fulford. Afternoon went (in Express wagon) to Ashton & brought home new sleigh which Mrs: Marlow has been ironing for me. Phineas Carol here for advice & med for his son -

32° Cloudy & Snow - N.E. February Thursday, 6th 1879 Went to Ashton got 3 doz "crickett" sleigh bells. took them to Bukoffskys & had them strung & ready for use. Went to Fulford to see little Tom - Snowed and rained most of the day. Phineas Carol here for advice for his son -

32° Clear - N.W. Friday, 7 Went (in sleigh) to Fulford, from whence E Dickinson went with me to Leawood Mill's, Riverside & Homewood. Edwd Pierce brought his two daughters & left them to go to the "Grand Charity Entertainment" to night. Mary Kummer also came to spend the night with Dora & attend the "Fandango" Pineas B Carol commenced painting sleigh Went to Phineas Carol's after supper Children returned from Lyceum about 10.o'clock p.m.

31° Clear - N.W. Saturday, 8 Took Willie with me (in sleigh) & went to Mrs Bond's & Phineas Carol's: Afternoon went in buggy to "Fulford". E Dickinson went with me to Ashton.
