68 Clear N.W. August Friday, 8th 1879 Sent Chas Johnson in omnibus to "Rockland" with the Club targets &c Mary E Hardesty and Annie Hill here for advice &c Edwd Leadbeater wife and daughter called. Matilda Tasker here for advice and med for daughter Charley and Dora went to Rockland to Archery Meeting.

Cloudy 55 Saturday, 9 N.E. [Illegible]: Johnson Sr here for advice &c for his Eyes. Sister Beulah spt the day with us - Quite cold had a fire in the dining Room all day. At night Charley went with some young men serenading after the store closed.

52 Clear N.W. Sunday, 10th Charley did not Return until hald past two o' clock this a.m. I took the whole family in the omnibus to Riverside and we dined there. Fred: Iddings was home spending Sunday -

54 Clear N.W. August Monday, 11th 1879 Went to Mrs: Caroline Scott's last night (called up about 11-30 p.m.) to see her father. Went this morning to B Rush Robert's and paid him my half yearly interest (Fifty four dollars) Willie being with me. Helen B Lea called for advice &c. Went to Willow Grove and Woodburn afternoon.

Clear 60 Tuesday, 12th S.W. Went to Chas: Stabler's and called upon Mrs Henry Fitshugh's

Clear Cloudy 65 Wednesday, 13th S.W. Wm Leizian brought his sister and mother for advice &c Jno Tasko called - Richd Addison took out our potatoes. I went to Riverside

68 Clear and Cloudy S.W August Thursday, 14th 1879 Poor old ["illegible"] or Wm Henry Gilpin died last night. Lydia Budd here for advice &c Edwd Thomas also here and I removed a small piece of iron or steel from his left eye. I took H to Homewood to call. Spread 6 one horse loads of manure over the potato patch intending to sow "millet".

Clear and Cloudy 70 Friday, 15th S.E. Took Willie and went to Rockville and home before dinner. Bro Richard called after noon also C Howard and had tooth extracted. Wrote to S Coale in answer to letter Reed yesterday - Rained in Evening

64 Cloudy and Rainy E August Sunday, 17th 1879 Raw disagreeable day. Charley drove to Leawood and Riverside taking Willie. Afternoon C Took me in the open buggy to Jno W Lucas' through the Rain. Was called up after bed time and went again to Lucas' (through pouring rain) on horseback. left them a little girl baby and came hom (in rain) at between 2 and 3 o' clock

Rain 63 Rain Monday, 18th N.E. Got home from Luca's about 3 o' clock this morning - Slept until about 11 - o clock. Fell badly stiff and sore "all over". Nick Johnson here for advice and med for Helen and Mr Lawford. Walter Scott and his sister Ella spent the evening here.

61 Clear N.W. Tuesday, 19th Went to Luca's - Nick Johnson's and Leawood Mills - Sow'd Millet seed in the lot. Sent Chas: Johnson to Scott;s (in omnibus) a brought home sixteen bushels of oats. Charley went after tea with W Scott to Henry Chandlee's -

65 Clear NW Thursday, 21 Went to Fulford - Afternoon took Harriet, Sister [illegible] Herbert Dora and Willie and Edwd: in omnibus to "Highland" store called at J W Luca's - Martha A Budd called for advice &c Rachael Gilpin and daughter and Frank Snowden spent evening here.

67 Clear SW Friday, 22d Friend Caleb Stabler called and settled his account: Also Mrs P T Stabler and Wm S Bond for advice and med: Thunder storm afternoon Charley went to "Oak Grove" to an archery meeting before the storm was finally over. Walter Scott called. Robt H Miller called and settled bill -

71 Variable S.W. August Saturday, 23d 1879 Bro R called. I drove sister H up to Fulford to call. Went to Wm H [illegible] to prescribe for Mrs Ent. Thunder storm Harriet and sister H took tea at Avalon

65 Rainy S.E Sunday, 24 Went to W H Ents - Sent Sister H to Fulford - Afternoon Charley and Willie went to the colored camp meeting - Edw: Bentley and Hallie Chandlee Jimmy Jackson and Annie Chandlee took tea with us. I had headache. Ernest came and staid all night

Rainy 70 Monday, 25th N.E. Ernest left before day light. I went to Ashton in omnibus and to Ent's Bought bed-stead, mattrass &c. Loaned the omnibus to Comadore . Patty Stabler called for advice &c for her cousin. Very Rainy Afternoon and Evening. Had fire in dining room.

65 Rainy and Cloudy N.E. August Tuesday, 26th 1879 Went to Fulford, Riverside and Ashton - Made box of "dope" Disagreeable day. Cleared off about night fall. Charley and Dora went to a company at Scotts after tea. Ernest came to stay all night.

Wednesday, 27th Was called up before day light to go to Rich's: Addison's and prescribe for "Annie" Mr: Eustice Lawford here whilst I was at breakfast. Afternoon I took Harriet and children to the negro camp meeting.

Clear and Cloudy Thursday, 28th ["Illegible"] Sprigg here for advice and med for daughter - Archery meeting at "Fair Hill". I took Dora and left her there. Charley went for her after tea. [Illegible] and Lizzie Stabler spent Evening here Bro R brought sister H to stay and take stage tomorrow for home. Bro Chas and most of his family here. Edwd Bentley and Hallie Chandlee called.

69 Clear S.W. August Friday, 29th 1879 Mifs Lizzie Scott here (before I was up) to have her burned hand dressed Rachel Gilpin called to see sister Harriet who left in the second stage for Philad" Cousin Annie Chandlee and Mr Leadbenter came to make us a little visit. I went to cousin Mary Chandlee and brought her over to spend the night with us. Mrs: Chalfant took tea with us - Charly went "serenading"

Clear Saturday, 30th W Charley did not get home until three o' clock that morning. I had started to [illegible] him up and met him near home. I took Harriet and the children and cousins Mary and Annie Chandlee in the "omnibus" to "Woodburn" and afterwards took cousins home before hinner. Bro: R called.

Cloudy "Haizey" 70 Sunday, 31st Andrew Easton had tooth out before breakfast. Jno: Henderson here for advice and treatment. Charly went to camp meeting with F Hallowell agter night

70° Clear S.W. September Monday, 1st 1879 Willie commenced school. I went to Ashton & Hamilton Johnson's. Spirggs sent for advice & medicine. Charley took Miss Mary Gilpin to a ball at Mechanicsville home late or early 1.o'clock a.m.

69° Cloudy - S.E. Tuesday, 2d Went to Fulford. Wm S Bond her & sttled my account against M W Murphy's Estate. Rain towards night.

71 Cloudy & Showery S.E. Wednesday, 3d Messengers here from Springgs and Knights. Frank Gilpin here for advice & treatment I went to Geo: Springgs Sent C Johnson to Jno: Hills after chickens - & Willie to Ashton after "motto" frame A Cyclone passed across the turnpike between Sandy Spring & Fulford tearing up trees etc. E Duvall here for advice & med: for R. B Phelps. after dark.

69° Clear & Cloudy - S.W. September Thursday, 4th 1879 Took the whole family including servant [?] (C. Johnson) to the annual meeting of the Agricultural society at Rockville. Reached home at 6 o'clock p.m. tired.

68 Clear SE Friday, 5th Went to John Bowen's. G B Phelp's Knight's & War'k P Miller's. Herbert Kirk Richd. P. I & "Jakey" came & spent afternoon with Willie. Herbert remained to spend the night & went with the rest of us to the Lyceum to hear the "Blend Violinest" who gave a concert there.

65° Clear S.W. Saturday, 6th [?] Bowen here for advice etc for wife. Willie went with Herbert to spend the day at Riverside. I went to Warwick P Miller's
