Tuesday Feb. 11th 1861. Commissioners & Orphan Court in Session. Heard of the death of G. R. Richardson. States Attorney Saw some valentines passing through the office. Jonathan Lani(?) came to see about getting a place – stayed all night.

12. Ground hard frozen – Soon began to thaw – roads bad Day very pleasant – Thomas Miller came and paid bill for Alms house. Meeting still going on at Union. 13th At work in shop – Took wheat to mill 5½ bu & 1½ corn Milly visiting at T. T. G’s Went after her in evening T. Rudulf & sister this serenade at Marley – H Evans – ?

14th Friday – warm with rain went to see Mr. Price after dinner – He wished me to attend to some business for him – Gave me some papers.

15 Saturday – A day of rain worked some in shop Rachel sick. Went to Miss Billington’s at night. She had collected $5.50 for Rev. T. K. Helmbold.

16 Sunday – Weather moderate roads very muddy – Went to church at New Leeds in the afternoon – Mr. Helmbold preached. 1 Peter 4.14 His last appointment till con ference -

17 – Monday – Clear – ground frozen – Went to Elkton paid Grooms balance of Borland’s(?) claim – Received letter from Enoch Cloud – also from Jonathan Law – Reynolds brought twins(?) 18 – clear – worked in shop Edward Spence died Mr. Helmbold preach at night Luke 16-25 “Remember” Drove of horses along 19 – Weather moderate – Making lathe wheel. Two strangers asked for dinner. 20 Weather moderate – worked in shop – meeting at Short’s – 22 Mr. Helmbold went to Cherry Hill for coat

21 Warm with rain. Fair toward Elkton in morning. Went to Gallaher’s in afternoon to turn mandrel for lathe Rain hard at night. -----------------22------------------------ Saturday – weather moderate worked in shop – ------------------23------------------- Sunday very pleasant like spring – --------------------24----------------- Monday – Went to Sherris in morning – Rained hard. Heavy blow in evening.

February 25 Went to Elkton – Saw D. Scott Louisa Walmsley came home – Robert expected home at night on his way to Dubuque Iowa wrote to Harvey A. McDaniel for iron sent $3. paid postage for Miss Billington
