May 3rd 1851 Heavy frost and some ice. Went with Dr. Carter to see Martha. Dr thought her much better. She was clear of cough Danl at home from fishing - very dull fishing season Reynolds quit on Thursday Went with Dr Carter to John Mearnes -- Bought some planks of Mearns -- Brought meat from Miss B's -

----- Sunday 4th ---- Cool and rain in afternoon rest(?) at home nearly all day Mr. Walmsley went to mothers

----- 5 ---- Rain and hail & snow - a very stormy day - worked in shop

May 6th Clear morning - but cold wheat and grass looks well not much corn planted yet. Went Mearn's after stuff 392 ft oak plank @ 2 - 13 ft boards at 1 3/4 - Went to Elkton in afternoon

----- 7 ---- Walked to Scotts Mill to sur vey for D. Scott of Jno. Mr Earle was there. Commenced at W.D. near Garretts. Found the des cription so defective that I could not locate it, and run by the holdings. Laid off 50 A for Benj Scott. Had headache stayed all night.

Tuesday 13th May

Worked in shop at Mearn's carriage. Thunder storm at night

14th Cool -- Mearns Wherry(?) & chiller(?) called for plat of road - Went to M Brown's - paid Mortition $20 in full. He and Wm going to start in morning for the West - Pennville Morgan Ca. O. Went to Cherry Hill in afternoon -- A. Saxton engaged(?) horn rakes -

----- 15 ---- Cool in morning -- Finished Mearn's carriage -- worked at plat of Scott's farm

Ambrose Owens & wife & Miss White called on their way from Elkton -- Weather quite season able for grass & wheat -- Flour $5 - corn 62 1/2 -- Daniel moved home from fishing -

----- 16 ---- Went in morning to sur vey for H.C. Mackall. He did not attend -- Jonathan at work for Miss Bilington -- Mearns came after his carriage - Made table in afternoon

17 Went to Elkton -- New Constitution published -- Took down plat of Scotts land. Edward Chandler here Rain at night --

Monday 19th Rachel plough potatoe patch, planted it in afternoon. Mary & Sally went to Elkton with John Campbell -

----- Tuesday 20 ---- Rain in morning. Clears up planted row of pumpkins worked in shop -

21 Beautiful day -- Jacob Scotten died -- I went to milk
