Moderate with light rain This day closes the winter months and it has been a remarkably warm winter with a good deal of rain There has been no sleighing at all this winter and there is considerable com plaint of colds yet the win ter has been rather healthy. The alders(?) have been in blossom sometime and the buds of the aspen are swelling.

Saturday March 1st 1851

The ground is a little frozen in the morning – but the day is clear and pleasant – Mr & Mrs. Morris came up – Thomas Brown’s child died --------------------Sunday 2nd ----------------------- Pleasant – Mr. Reynolds came here – Mr. Morris went home – Went to New Leeds to church Mr. Brown preached – Text Habakkuk – “Lord revive thy work” -----------------Monday -- 3 -------- Cold – Funeral of Mr. Brown’s child – Went to Wm. Warburton’s after dinner – Engaged coal from Jas Warburton Tuesday 4th Went to Foards v(_____) cool with southerly wind James Terrell died

Wednesday 5 Went with Benjamin Miller and Daniel J. to Sassafras Neck Stopped with Mr. Miller at Warwick – Great excitement expecting the murder in Kent of Corden & family on last Thursday – went down to Beach Fishery with Danl and James Ford – valued Batteau & Anchor & Cable Seins rope & cork – Capstans, Hogsheads Hauling rope cooking utensils & other fishing property on shore at $150 – Stayed all night with John Watts.

Thursday March 6th

Left Mothers in morning with Daniel with his suns on wagon – came to Cecilton. Daniel signed the notes for fishing property and went on I remained at Cecilton for Mr. Miller. He signed notes and left them with James Ford, and we came home – Rachel’s little boy was buried in the afternoon --Jonathan Lane moved. ------------Friday 7---------------- Snowed all day making the deepest snow this season -------------8th---------------------- Still snowing in the morning clears off and begins to thaw ?

Sunday 9th Snow melting – bad travelling Went to see mother & Rachel am unwell with headache ------------ 10 ---------------- Raw and unpleasant snow melting – Still unwell -------------11 -------------- More pleasant – Snow nearly gone. Able to work some to day – Got 8 doz spokes from Gallaher & 62 ft plank and 97 ft from Samel Ewing Henry took his barrels out of shop – ----------------------12--------------- pleasant day – W J. Warburton sent wagon & ash plank – J. H. Simpers got tarring machine
